I realised when sorting through my clothes recently, that despite being a very neutral, simple palette kind of girl when it comes to clothes, I noticed I had quite a few bright or patterned accessories. I guess this is my go-to way of transforming the simple outfits that I tend to wear, usually by adding a pop of colour.
There are a few ways I like to do this: Wearing a relatively simple outfit like dark indigo jeans, and a white top or shirt and adding a brightly coloured coat. This coat from Zara is perfect for our changeable summer here in the UK, and adds a chic touch to an otherwise simple outfit, nicely finished off with my favourite new glove shoes from Topshop.
If a bold coat is too much for you, an outfit can be easily transformed by either a bag or shoes that add a little something different, whether in a bright colour or print. I love this leather mustard clutch I picked up from Zara a few years ago. It adds the perfect contrast against the black of my Topshop contrast panel duster coat and brightens up this simple outfit. It’s also big enough to fit quite a few essentials! See here for a similar clutch from Whistles.
I am a sucker for a crazy shoe! These leopard print tasselled loafers from Zara are perfect for adding a sense of fun to any simple outfit, as are these silver lace up bluchers also from Zara. I call them my jazz shoes! Shoes are a ‘safe way’ of venturing into wearing prints and brighter colours if you’re someone who is more conservative in the way you dress. And they’re ALWAYS a great conversation starter! Click here for similar silver flat shoes with brogue detail from Zara. I might need to get these as well, I love them!
Hopefully these ideas have given you some inspiration as to how to add a pop of colour to a simple outfit, be it jeans and a tee, or an all-black ensemble, you can transform and add interest to even the simplest of outfits.
Until next time! 🙂
