Sleek Makeup Matte Me Liquid Lipstick Review

Sleek Makeup Matte Me Liquid Lipstick Review

So I’ve fallen on the liquid lipstick bandwagon. They’re so on trend, you’ll be hard pressed to avoid them for long! To be honest it’s a refreshing new trend that I am more than happy to take on, as in the world of makeup unlike fashion you don’t find ground breaking new trends all that often!

I already own a few liquid lipsticks from Kat Von D, Anastasia Beverley Hills and Colour Pop. I refused to pay the extortionate shipping fees for the Kylie Jenner lip kits, which are essentially the same as product as the Colour Pop lipsticks (both made by Colour Pop) just different branding!

Anyway, I digress. When I saw that Sleek had released their own line of liquid lipsticks I was so excited! I’ve got a special place in my heart for the brand. Growing up in the UK as a black girl in her teens in the late 90’s, there were hardly any make up brands that catered for us, not like it is now (thank God)! Sleek was one of the only brands in which I could find some makeup for my skin tone and the range wasn’t that big. I’m really glad to see it grow over the years and be appreciated by women of all colours.

I bought 4 colours: The reds, Fired Up and Rioja Red and pinky neutrals Birthday Suit and Velvet Slipper. On first glance my favourite was velvet slipper, as I like dusky pinks and purples against my skin tone. The packaging is robust and a nice little touch is the Sleek branding embossed on the lid.

Below are the colours swatched:

And here are what the colours look like on me, without lip liner.

Application was smooth and flawless, and the consistency just right. Not too thick or too thin. The pigmentation was pretty good, though I think Colour Pop pips them at the post on this one and there was minimal colour transfer. The only one real drawback I would say is I found these lipsticks slightly drying even having them on for a short while. I guess that might be something that’s to be expected and is the only negative point. However, for the price point of £4.99 from Superdrug or Boots in the UK, I really can’t complain!

Originally my favourite was Velvet Slipper, but I think this has come out a little darker than it looks in the packaging. I think my favourite on me is actually Birthday Suit which upon first glance I thought would be too light. I think with my lips lined and filled with a brown lip pencil (such as Mac Chestnut), this will look great!
